Very interesting class, surprisingly. Be warned though, it's not an easy A (I'm pretty good about studying and I ended up with a B+...do the extra credit assignments!). Anyway, classes were always entertaining and Voshell definitely knows what he's talking about. Tests are actually kinda difficult and sometimes have nitpicky information, make sure you study for each test and really know the information.

I took ENT 2004 in the fall of 2009, with both Voshell and Hiner co-teaching it. As an engineering major, i took it looking for an easy A. It is definitely NOT an easy A class. That said, it requires VERY little work (which helps out with other classes), but the tests at the empo are much trickier than I expected.

I ended up with a B in the class, so I would say it is pretty easy to get around a B, but unless you are good at memorization (similar to what you'd find in Bio classes, etc.) you might want to look somewhere else for an easy A.

I actually took this Spring 2008. I took it online and I hated it. It was boring and not that easy. We had to take the tests at the empo on a friday evening. The test questions were on the most random and detailed information. Personally, I think it requires a lot more effort than necessary for an online course.

Dr. Voshell is like Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hide. He seems really nice in class, but when I went to his office and asked him a simple question, he went off. He is the rudest most arrogant professor I have ever encountered. I asked him where the milkweed bugs were located because mine had died. He started saying, " this is rediculous, do you come to class, you need to get your act together? I had been to class everyday, I just walked by the bugs when I walked in Price hall. It was a simple question, but instead he was a complete a hole.

Mr. Hiner is a great guy. The class is fairly easy. The TA's don't grade worth a you know what.

Voshell and Heiner were a great team! The class was alot of fun! This is a popular class and now I can see why. They give 3 extra credit opportunities and the lecture videos are fun. They can be VERY funny guys too. Sometimes I went into class in a bad mood but going to their class made me laugh. They like to cut up sometimes and they have alot of diff't. activities for students. Highly recommend! HOWEVER, do not confuse their likeability with the class being a breeze. The tests were TRICKY! ALL at the Math Emp.- As with most classes, you must really know the material to get an A. For example: If you recall some fact from the readings and you memorized it, they might put it on the test but change JUST ONE WORD to make it FALSE. So beware. You must memorize stuff AND comprehend it to get an A. (This is common knowledge but I just thought I'd let people know it wasn't an 'Easy-A" kinda' class.

Voshell was able to take something that I wasn't very interested in, insects, and make it a worthwhile class. I only took it for the area 7 credit, and it ended up being one of the best classes I took. I suggest taking not taking the online version of the class, because in the lectures they show a lot of interesting movies and do demonstrations to make it a little fun. Overall, it was a good choice for area 7. If you go to class and do a little studying, the tests aren't too bad and the only other big grade is a report that is not graded harshly.

Although I took INsects and Human Society online, I could still tell that Dr. Voshell was very knowledgable on the subject. He made and narrated slides for each week and if one studied these slides, it is almost impossible to fail.

Dr. Voshell is without a doubt THE BEST professor I have had yet at Virginia Tech. I admit, I was a bit daunted when I signed up for an Entemology class, but I am SO GLAD that I did. His class (along with Mr. Hiner) was stimulating, relevant, and fun. Mr. Hiner and Dr. Voshell make an excellent pair. They show a video clip at least *EVERY CLASS* and make a huge effort to make a 400+ person class seem like a 40 person class. I learned more in this class than any other class that I've yet taken at VT. When the class was over, I was sad that I couldn't take another semester. Give him a raise!!

A great class in the beginning, however gets slightly boring. The tag-team teaching method definately made the 75mins class easier to live through. With their ( Mr Hiner and Mr Voshell) interludes and short movie clips class was never jus all lectures. i enjoyed the class, there was alot of material to absorb, however the class isnt easy to get an A you have to try, but....it is easily passable w/o tryin
